There’s a lack of Korean restaurant near my home, so I was delighted when Sura opened. The interior is cozy, and seats about ten tables.
We had the Pa Jeon ($14.95) to start. As you can probably tell from the picture, this is one thick monster. A generous amount of seafood was given (shrimp, scallop, squid), but you bit through lots of flour before you get to it.

The Beef Ribs ($13.95) was quite a deal actually! Lettuce, rice, and gochujang paste (red pepper paste) accompanied this dish. The meat was tender and again, the portion was generous. My only complaint here is that the meat could have been marinated a bit longer…as the taste was slightly bland, but still enjoyable.

My sister loved teh Soon Dubu (Tofu) Soup ($12.95). This dish was by far the star of the night. The tofu was silky and we could tell a lot of care was put into the soup.

Hopefully Sura will be able to stick around, despite the recession : )

You can get these at Veggie House for $1.00 each! Choose between: peanut and red bean filling. The peanut filling contains shredded coconut for an extra sweet taste. The mochi is softer than the Japanese ones, but definitely on par when it comes to deliciousness!

These are a bit messy to eat since the filling tends to get everywhere but well worth it : )

We ended our visit to BC with another dim sum meal. Apparently, Shi Art is one the best Richmond has to offer.

The fish and dried oyster congee arrived lukewarm. The congee was quite bland and I suspect that the dried oysters were added in last minute, rather than being incorporated as a mixture.

The Crispy Shrimp Roll was a delight. This dish arrived hot and did not disappoint.

Here we have the Steamed Shrimp Dumplings, Milk Pudding Buns, and a Dried Bean Curd roll. All were pretty standard.

The Radish Cake is a simple dish, but is quite hard to master. Shi Art has it down with the crispy exterior and soft insides.

The star of the meal: Steam Spareribs. While most places offer this dish in a black bean sauce, Shi Art’s take is a sweet and spicy mixture. The squash also adds a nice touch to this dish.

The final dish, the Shrimp and Chives cake hit the spot with its crsipy exterior and tasty combination of shrimp and chives on the inside.

Although Shi Art does dim sum well, I think I would go back to Hkyk Seafood Restaurantjust because I found that the prices did not reflect the quality of the dishes.

We decided to console ourselves after the crabbing incident, so it was off to Horseshoe Bay for a seafood lunch.
We ended up at Troll’s, after seeing how full the patio was.

The three piece Fish and Chips ($14.99) was pretty standard.

The Seafood Wrap ($13.99) consisted of salmon and crab mix and veggies. It was only average, IMO.

The best dish was definitely the Seafood Clubhouse ($12.99). The baby shrimp and crab mix was creamy, but balanced by the smokiness of the bacon. I don’t know why I only took a picture from this angle : (

Troll’s offers a takeout counter where the meals are $1-$2 cheaper than the dine-in menu. Perfect for enjoying the view!

Headed out to Porteau Cove to get some crabbing done, but to our dismay, you can only go crabbing if you have a boat (which we didn’t). Nevertheless, Porteau Cove is a beautiful place, and I will definitely keep it in mind as a future campsite.

Tons of vendors, both food and merchandise, are there to cater to the publics’ need of spending money at the Richmond night market.
Here’s a fun game: catching fish with tissue paper paddle!

Spicy Curry Fish Balls (2 skerwers for $4.50)

“Chicken Egg” pastires ($3.00/order)

A lot of squids were sacrificed…

Tawiwanese waffles.

Korean street waffles ($5 for 6; fillings: nutella, red bean, custard, ALL YUMMY!)! Definitely the highlight of the night.

Dragon Beard Candy ($3.00/pack). The candy is hand pulled into fine strands.

Famous skewer stand. ($5.00/3 skewers – lamb, beef, chicken).

Sam, the famous “Chicken Egg” pastry maker!

Fruit Stand! The rambutan were SO fresh!

I believe the night market is open til September (fridays – sunday, 6pm-12am). It’s a great opportunity to sample Chinese street/snack foods!
What can you get for $19.99? Maybe four fast food meals. Or maybe two meals at a restaurant…if you stretch it. At Kyung Bok Palace, you can get FIVE dishes (out of twenty-five). The selection includes more common Korean fare, like the bibimbap, to more untraditional Korean food, such as the cheese and chicken hot plate.

Here is the Spicy Pork Bulgogi. Nice and spicy!

I would have liked the Pa Jeon to be crispier…

Bibimbap (sorry for the messy pic!)

The Beef Ribs were flavorful and juicy.

The Cheese and Chicken hot plate! Surprisingly, this was the best dish of the five. The sizzling plate added a bbq-flavor to the cabbage which was addictive.

This is definitely enough to feed four people. And if you don’t one of the dishes, who cares, you only wasted four dollars! Fast food sure ain’t got nothin’ on this!

Yaohan centre has many fast food vendors that offer a variety of Chinese dishes. The best value we found was a selection of three items, steamed/fried rice/fried noodles, with a complimentary cup of tea. How much? $5.99!! I chose the fried shrimp, soy sauce chicken, and salt and pepper pork chop. This meal was tasty, but nothing special, but I highly recommend you bring a friend (or two) along when you order one of these monstrosities.

…we ALWAYS visit a temple. The temple in Richmond is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. It’s spacious and beautifully cared for. I love how there are background stories of each religious figure.
